Broken

Updated: Oct 21, 2022

When you hear or read the word “broken” - what comes to mind? Perhaps you feel broken right now. And maybe you experienced brokenness at some point in your life. Or perhaps someone once told you you were “broken – useless.”

In scripture, the word “broken” can mean “stricken, afflicted, and sad spirit.” “A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.” (Proverbs 15:13) The Hebrew of that word “broken” means stricken, afflicted, and sad. It is not referring to a physical break.

However, the word “brokenhearted – shabar” used in the passage for the book (psalm 147:3) means, “to break, break in pieces.” The Hebrew refers to it as “ships being broken by the wind.” That’s a pretty strong break. The psalmist is referring to a heart being broken into pieces!

Reflect on this statement over the weekend:

“He [God] heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds” – even if the heart is physically broken.

Let us not underestimate the power of God’s ability to heal the wounded heart.

Give God your damaged friendships, press into Him, and He will heal your broken heart, as well as lead you in the path you should take to restore the friendship.

May you find FREEDOM from any past mistakes you made in your friendships with other women.
